A Korean Carved Wood Grain Measure: Wonderful Wear
early twentieth century
4" x 13" x 8 1/2", 10 cm x 33 cm x 21.5 cm
This beautifully formed object is hand hewn from one block of wood: it is a scoop that was used for measuring grain in old Korea.
The form of the object is just beautiful in its proportions, color and its material. From the slender neck to the generous volume of the bowl its shape is not only functional, it is also elegant.
Beautiful, too, is the wear on the piece which is most easily seen on the weathering to the wood grain: the wood grain is very prominent due to decades of constant contact with grain which have carved into the body of the measure.
A really beautiful, collectible object.
