A Woman's Kasuri Hanten: Indigo Dyed Ikat
$75.00 USD
mid twentieth century
24" x 47", 61 cm x 119.5 cm
This short jacket is hand stitched from indigo dyed, fairly large-scale kasuri cotton.
It is the type of hanten which was made to be worn every day, presumably for work. By looking at the condition of the jacket it is clear that it was worn since it shows some areas of light fading and some surface abrasion, both of which enhance the quality of the cotton by enriching it with the warmth of human wear.
The condition is wearable but it has been used.
A lovely thing to display, to study or to wear.
