A Hemp Woven Zabuton Cover #2: Akaso
mid twentieth century
20 1/4" x 20", 51.5 cm x 51 cm
This is a vintage hemp or ramie woven zabuton cover, a zabuton being a traditional seating cushion.
The dyed kasuri asa cloth is a type called akaso which is woven in Oumi, Shiga prefecture and is distinctive for its kasuri woven, brown-on-natural coloration.
The zabuton cover has a slit in the back where filling can be inserted; the condition is good and used.
A lovely traditional and utilitarian item from Japan.
