A Heavily Patched Boro Fragment: Layers of Old Cloth
$45.00 USD
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
30" x 13", 76 cm x 33 cm
This short length of heavily patched indigo dyed boro cotton cloth is just lovely for its color palette and its layered concentration of patches, mending and stitching.
Probably taken from a noragi--work coat--or a futon cover, this is a jewel-of-a-boro cloth: small, rich in patches and indigo, it calls up every day life in old Japan.
A really wonderful little textile.
