A Handsome Sakiori Obi: Ragwoven Kimono Sash
$85.00 USD
mid twentieth century
127" x 6 3/4", 322.5 cm x 17 cm
This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns are of very fine, purple dyed silk or rayon which lend a richness of tone to the overall color feeling of this obi. The weft yarns are fairly evenly spaced bars of a tight palette of colors, primarily scarlet, variegated grey/brown, blue and beige.
This lovely obi is in good, used condition--and pay attention to the two, red stamps on one end of the obi: these are the maker's marks.
A beautiful, handsomely colored folk textile.
