A Handsome Long Boro Textile: Handwoven Stripes
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
75" x 13 1/2", 190.5 cm x 34 cm
This is a very nice--and quite long--piece of old, hand loomed cotton, the entire length being composed of two separate pieces which are hand stitched together.
The cotton is nice and heavy in the hand and is woven with a rustic touch. The stripes are lovely: pale blue and a kind of ochre color, they add visual interest to the length, and they sit well on the indigo dyed ground color.
There are six patched hand stitched to the length, each of them cotton, and they represent five distinct types of hand woven cotton cloth.
