A Handsome Cotton Boro Length: Large Plaid Patch
ca. early twentieth century
64" x 13", 162.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a lovely old length of hand woven cotton cloth that has been pieced together and patched.
The length of hand spun cotton cloth is made from two pieces that are hand stitched together. On top of this length of pieced cotton is a group of 10 hand applied patches, the predominate one being an old, large-scale plaid patch that shows two interesting ovals of stitching.
The indigo color is rich and evenly dyed, the ito aji or thread taste is also very pronounced.
A very good piece of old cotton boro from Japan, and one of good size and quality.
