A Handsome Boro Noragi: Hand Spun Cotton Yarns

$175.00 USD

early twentieth century
35 1/2" x 48", 90 cm x 122 cm

This is a subtle, dark colored indigo dyed cotton work coat that is shown here inside-out to highlight its recycled cloth and its patches.

The coat itself is completely hand stitched and the remarkable blue cotton that is used to craft the coat seems to be completely made of repurposed, indigo dyed cottons that are woven from home spun yarns: quite wonderful.

Wonderful, too, are the dark blue cotton patches that are used to repair the coat: note one of the patches has a bright white spot: this is a stray, resisted shibori splotch that found its way onto that patch.  Also note the wonderful, kasuri patch on the left of the back of the coat--this small detail creates a little buzz of interest in this hand woven cotton noragi.

Still very wearable, this subtle, dark indigo work coat is beautiful in its understatement.

In good, used condition.
