A Hand Woven Sakiori Obi: Color Change

$85.00 USD

mid twentieth century
122" x 6 1/2", 310 cm x 16.5 cm

This is a extravagantly and beautifully colored sakiori obi, which is a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

It is a very unusual sakiori obi because it shows color "changes" down its length.  One part of the sakiori obi is based on red and pink hues while another part of the obi is dominated by purples and blues.

The weft yarns are of black cotton yarn which lightly tints the overall coloration and gives a richness of hue that enhances the colored effect.

This very good obi is in good, used condition.

An especially handsome folk textile in an unusual, dual color palette that makes this obi a rare treat.

Very recommended.
