A Group of Five Daifukucho: Slender Accounting Books
early twentieth century
each long book approximately: 5 3/4" x 14", 14.5 cm x 35.5 cm
each short book approximately: 7 x 5 1/2", 18 cm x 14 cm
This is a nice group of five slim, old daifukucho. A daifukucho is a hand bound, hand written book that was originally used for inventories, for accounting, for ledgers or as a record of loans.
One of the books is fairly blank or about 1/2 full of writing done in sumi or charcoal-based ink.
All of the books' front exterior page shows hand written kanji or Chinese characters; two of the four are bound together by twined paper string.
A good example of a traditional daifukucho with very nice bast fiber paper and good writing.
