A Group of 69 Very Small Bashofu Fragments: Variety of Woven Banana Fiber

$90.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
various sizes

This is a collection of 69 small fragments of bashofu the famed woven banana fiber cloth of Okinawa.

This collection presents a good variety of the types of bashofu woven in the Ryukyu islands, from striped to stenciled to kasuri to those who show some undyed cotton elements.

The pieces all are small, averaging 2" x 1" or 5 cm x 2.5 cm each, with some smaller and many larger--the variety presented here is quite impressive. The image shown here is the group displayed as an arrangement. The pieces are loose.

A wonderful way to study this hallowed weaving tradition--this is a wonderful compilation of so many types of bashofu.

Recommended.
