A Gorgeously Patched Length of Cotton Kaya: Indigo Dyed Mosquito Netting
ca. early twentieth century
95 1/2" x 13", 242.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a particularly beautiful, cotton boro kaya or mosquito netting.
Its beauty resides in its lovely, warm blue color, almost a
cornflower blue: clear, rich and easy on the eyes. There are three narrow, white stripes down the length of this cloth.
The patching to this kaya is also top-notch, with 9 patches of cotton cloth, each hand stitched to the base cloth, which is extra-long and which is composed of two pieces.A visual treat, this boro kaya has many alluring qualities, chief among them its indigo dyed color, its artful patching and its beautifully woven texture.
