A Good-Sized Ball of Torn Rag Yarn: Sakiori

$225.00 USD

early twentieth century
5", 12.75 cm diameter

This ball of torn rag yarn was to be used in the service of sakiori weaving, and, it is important to note, this kind of raw material is exceedingly hard to find. It is a pleasure to present two of these balls here for you to see.

The cloth seems all to be of hand spun cotton and the tearing of it is done rather loosely: the width of the yarn is varied due to what appears to be a hasty method of ripping large pieces of cloth to create suitable yarn for weaving.

This is of very good size and has great color, and all the pieces that make this ball are old. This is a real find.

Very recommended.
