This is a fairly heavy weight cotton kimono which, by the long sleeves, indicate that it was worn by a girl or young lady.

The cotton cloth is woven in the kasuri method and was most probably made on the island of Kyushu, more than likely at a kasuri weaving center in around Kurume.

The pattern is complex as it shows a diamond lattice pattern, each cell of which contains a cross. The interstices also show a cross, making for an eye dazzling effect. As can be seen on the accompanying detail photo, the top, inside is lined with re-purposed, printed cotton cloth.

The kimono is as wearable as it is willing to be shown as artwork or used for inspiration. It is in good, used condition with no obvious stains, holes or abrasions.

The effect if the woven pattern is delightful for the eye and should you choose not to wear or display it, the kimono bears enough cloth to harvest it to create an entirely new textile artwork.

Lovely.
