A Generously Patched and Beautiful Boro Panel: Very Good Stitching

$125.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
67" x 13", 170 cm x 33 cm

This is a really good looking old length of very patched, beautifully stitched indigo dyed cotton boro cloth; it is a panel taken from a futon cover.

The length is good-sized and is composed of three pieces which have been hand stitched together.  Onto this base cloth we can see about 20 individual patches, many of which are in tonal contrast to the base cloth, and most of which are studded by thick stitches of cotton thread.  The base's cotton is worn thin in many areas, as to be expected of an old length of cloth which has been used hard and mended with equal vigor.

This boro piece is unusually attractive, has absolutely wonderful patching and stitching, is a rich, full, visual statement and is very recommended.

A very good boro panel.
