A Gauzy Length of Checked Cotton: Interestingly Patched
ca. early twentieth century
68" x 12 1/2", 172.5 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a length of beautifully hand woven, lightweight cotton which is a few steps up from feeling gauzy. The cloth shows large scale checks in muted tones--very simple and with graphic appeal.
One large hand stitched patch dominates the center of the cloth; this striped cotton is of heavier weight than the gauzy cotton base and it shows wonderful, subtle stitching.
Notice, as well, the two sides of the cloth: the proper back shows the patch as a large area while the proper front shows a half circle of the same cloth.
A wonderful boro length.
