A Full Bolt of Shibori Silk: Crepe

$185.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
approximately 12 yards x 9 1/2",  11 m x 24 cm

This is a bolt of unused shibori dyed crepe silk cloth.

The bolt or tanmono was intended for use as a kimono. The tie dyed  pattern shown here is still fresh and deeply puckered as can be seen in the attached detail photos.

The silk is lightweight and very drapey. The shibori is still very tight and unrelaxed so the width of this cloth has contracted due to so much tension.

The silk is of a pale persimmon color tone and the shibori is tied showing images of flowers, curves or arabesques and vertical lines. There are some sage green colored highlights.

Vintage bolts such as this one are not easy to find these days, so this one is extra covetable for that reason.

Recommended.
