A Folded Shibori Fragment: Pleats in Two Directions
$35.00 USD
ca. early to mid twentieth century
23" x 12 1/2", 58.5 cm x 31.5 cm
This length of indigo dyed shibori cotton is composed of two pieces which have been hand stitched together.
The cloth is dyed using two processes: a diagonally-oriented pleating which produces the soft, blue lines in the background, and a vertically oriented, bound pleating which produces the bold lines of the "foreground."
The dyeing is beautiful as is the indigo, and this piece, which shows wear, is a wonderful addition to any collection of shibori, especially for study.
Just lovely.
