A Faded Stitched Fold of Resist Dyed Cotton: Kanji
$25.00 USD
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
8 1/4" x 14", 21 cm x 35.5 cm
This weathered, beat-up, and beautifully aged length of cloth is resist dyed showing two kanji or Chinese characters which read Murata.
It is one piece of cloth that is folded onto itself and hand stitched on one of its long sides: the two short sides are open, a curious configuration--what was this used for?
If opened, this piece of cotton would measure about 16 1/2" or 42 cm, double shown here.
