A Fabulous Indigo Dyed Cotton Boro Mat: Finished Edges

$135.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
42" x 23", 106.5 cm x 58.5 cm

What a beautiful, indigo dyed, hand loomed cotton boro cloth.

This boro textile shows a wonderful arrangement of about ten indigo dyed cotton patches on a ground hand stitched from two pieces.  The artful arrangements of the old cotton patches against faded ground is just fantastic, as are the eddies of sashiko stitched details that can be easily seen in the accompanying detail photographs.

The two, short ends of this cloth are finished by hand, which leads us to think that this was some kind of sitting mat or perhaps a sleeping mat for a baby or a small child.

The collection of hand spun cottons on this boro piece is excellent, as is the accidental artistry that has placed the patches as they are, making this a really wonderful boro textile.

Very recommended.
