Zokin are traditional Japanese dustrags which are almost always made from layered and sashiko stitched scraps of cloth.
This is a very handsome zokin which is sewn from recycled plaid cotton cloth, probably about two or three layers thick. The sashiko stitching which quilts the layers together is done in nice, regular, vertically-oriented lines which creates a nice, overall texture on the zokin.
Lovely.
