A Densely Sashiko Stitched Terrycloth Tenugui: Hand Towel

$30.00 USD

mid to late twentieth century
11" x 32", 28 cm x 81.5 cm

This is a very interesting and amusing piece. It is a complete cotton terrycloth tenugui or hand towel that has been backed with cotton and then densely sashiko stitched on the entire surface of the tenugui.

The white-on-white color situation is beautiful as is the amount of sashiko stitching: by looking carefully at the photos here you can see how close together the rows of horizontal stitches are to one another.

For those who do hand stitching you know how long this must have taken to finish. It is a fun piece and one that with many applications in the home.

Charming.
