A Densely and Interestingly Sashiko Stitched Cloth: Layered
$55.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
12 1/4" x 16 3/4", 31 cm x 42.5 cm
This cloth--more than likely a zokin or a traditional dust cloth--is covered in small and beautifully rustic cotton thread sashiko stitches.
The entire surface is jammed with tiny stitches, creating more of a texture than a patterned surface. As well, and what adds to this, are the seams stitched into the brown base cloth. This creates surface interest.
This is a visually compelling country textile, one that is rich in stitches which create a beautifully inspirational thing to look at.
A real beauty.
