A Cypress Wood Box of Tatami Heri Pieces: Short Rolls of Used Hemp Cloth

This lovely assortment of old, very used short rolls of hemp cloth is placed in a fragrant hinoki or cypress wood box.  The eight rolls are pieces of tatami heri, or the cloth edging of tatami mats.

Even though this selection of indigo dyed hemp cloth is humble and worn, it looks like a delicacy when presented in such a refined manner.
