A Checkerboard Sakiori Obi: Variegated Colors

$85.00 USD

mid twentieth century
116" x 5 3/4", 294.5 cm x 14.5 cm

This is a sakiori obi or a kimono sash that is hand woven from shredded cotton yarn. The warp is cotton and the weft yarn is constructed of torn cotton pieces.

The obi is woven in a way that it shows a kind of checkerboard effect, the size of the checkerboard being irregular along the length of the obi. As well, there are randomly spaced bands of color down the obi whose variation add to the visual delight of this piece.

The obi is in good, used condition but please note a faint stain on the obi, which is shown clearly on the attached detail photographs.
