A Boro Section of a Cotton Kimono: Patches
$75.00 USD
ca. early to mid twentieth century
50" x 16 1/4", 127 cm x 41 cm
This irregularly shaped boro fragment is configured such a way because it is, in fact, a section of a boro kimono, and shows two layers hand stitched together, a top, wide layer, and a narrower one behind it.
The base cloth is a nicely dyed, hand woven striped cotton upon which sit about eight, hand applied patches of various types, all cotton, some being older striped cloth while others are a brighter, large figured, mid century cotton kasuri.
A lovely, vibrantly designed old boro cloth, and one with many possibilities.
