A Boro Drawstring Cotton Bag: Beautiful Cottons
early to mid twentieth century
as shown: 18" x 12" x 5", 46 cm x 30.5 cm x 2.75 cm
This well-worn, simply constructed drawstring bag was certainly a work horse in its day, and it shows from it used condition, its fade patterns, the ingrained dirt from wear and the patching.
It is hand stitched from old, hand loomed cottons about four pieces in all: the bag is very simply constructed: it is basically a large piece of cloth folded onto itself and stitched up, making sure there is a channel to string a tie through. The bag is lined in indigo dyed cotton which is obviously recycled.
The drawstring cord, which is flat and wide, is old and tattered and therefore cinching the bag closed is very difficult, almost impossible to do completely.
