A Bolt of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shibori: Yukata Fabric
mid twentieth century
approximately 12 yds x 11 1/2", approximately 11 m x 29 cm
This is a full bolt of unused cotton shibori that was intended to be stitched up into a yukata or an unlined casual kimono.
The cotton is machine loomed and the indigo is more than likely synthetic, both traits are in keeping with the era in which this was made.
The cloth is from the Narumi/Arimatsu location in Japan which is the unofficial shibori "capital" of Japan and the type of shibori shown here is emblematic of that place.
The design is all-over tie dyed puckering and the texture is still intact as are the original paper tags that are adhered to the selvedge edges of this bolt.
This is a generous amount of unused shibori cloth that holds great potential for many projects.
