A Black and White Checked Haori: Small Pattern in Cotton
early twentieth century
shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 33" x 48", 84 cm x 122 cm
This is as simple a garment as is possible: it is a haori or jacket that is hand stitched from a lovely hand woven, black and white checked cotton cloth. The checked pattern is small and gives the appearance of gingham.
It is presented here as a wearable item but it can also be used as home decor, of course.
The condition is good and used with one almost imperceptible area of hazy staining to the bottom, right area of the back of the garment. To be honest, this flaw is easy to miss and is somewhat impossible to detect at first glance.
The straightforward charm of this piece is its calling card.
Just lovely--and still quite wearble.
