A Beautifully Toned Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash
mid twentieth century
114" x 6 1/4", 289.5 cm x 16 cm
This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.
Its coloration is based in bars of rich tones of purple, pale blue and green that are interspersed with equal-sized bars of mottled color, the result of a figured rag cloth used as weft fed against the warp.
The warp yarns are of black dyed cotton which give depth of color and tone to the obi.
This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome.
A beautiful, richly toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette and a good example of a sakiori obi.
