A Beautifully Patched, Old Noragi: Thick Hand Spun Indigo Dyed Cotton Work Coat

$545.00 USD

late nineteenth century
shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 32" x 51", 81.5 cm x 129.5 cm

This old jacket hits all the marks of what you would want in a boro garment: the cotton is all home spun and hand woven, the patches and the base cloth are all contemporary to each other and the quality of the cotton is heavy and rustic in just the right way.

Judging from the marks of light fading and its patina, the bodice seems to have been recycled from another garment and there are plenty of patches on this as all the accompanying detail photos describe.

There might have been a lining to this rural style coat as the collar and bottom hem areas are not finished so there seems to have been a lining removed.

The textures, the age, the presentation and the unintended artfulness of this jacket make it something very worthwhile to own.

Very recommended.
