A Beautifully Patched Length of Hand Woven Boro Cotton: Large Plaid

$90.00 USD

early twentieth century
54" x 13", 137 cm x 33 cm

This is length of plaid, indigo dyed cotton that has been mended with about ten patches along its length. The contrasting tone, shade, color and pattern of the patches in relation to the base cloth enriches the visual interest to this piece.

The patches are beautifully arranged on the plaid cloth and are placed in a very rational way as they attempt to strengthen the base cloth and to mend some tears to it.

The base cloth still shows tugs, snags and small tears that the patches do not cover, and its wonderful, hand woven texture is what you would like to see in a hand made cloth from old Japan.

An attractive boro panel of  good length and one with interesting patches and details.

Recommended.
