A Beautifully Patched Boro Length: Katazome Base Cloth--Peonies

$165.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
64" x 12 1/2", 162.5 cm x 31.75 cm

This is a beautifully patched indigo dyed boro panel from futon cover, the base cloth being dyed in the stencil resist method or katazome and showing a repeat pattern of peonies.

The hand woven cloth is patched with nine patches, three of which are the same fabric as the base cloth, and the patches, being of different sizes and scale, lend this piece a wonderfully artful mood.

That the cloth is figured as it is, and as the patches are geometric as they are, makes for a beautiful visual diversity within the framework of this long panel of recycled cloth.

A really lovely, old piece of indigo dyed boro cloth.

Recommended.
