A Beautifully Graphic Two Panel Boro Panel: White Stitching
ca. early twentieth century
76" x 25 1/2", 193 cm x 64.75 cm
This two panel, indigo dyed cotton boro textile is taken from a larger piece, from a futon cover.
The boro textile is layered and and beautifully stitched, as can be seen on the accompanying photographs. The most striking feature of this wonderfully graphic boro cloth is that the patches--about 16 in all--are in contrast to the base cloth, which is heightened by the use of thick, white, sashiko stitching, which adds a bold yet subtle detail in the overall scheme.
The bottom, left, quarter of the cloth is of a nineteenth century striped cotton; there is a small hole to the center seam, just below center.
A really lovely, beautifully stitched and composed old boro textile.
