mid twentieth century
120" x 7 1/4", 304 cm x 18.25 cm
This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns are of black cotton which lends a richness of tone to the overall color feeling of this obi. The weft yarns are fairly evenly spaced bars of a muted palette of warm colors: mottled and variegated purple, green and orange with additional bars of mauve and rust.
This lovely obi is in good, used condition and shows one small frayed are, the size of a bean.
A beautiful, elegantly colored folk textile.
