A Beautifully Colored Boro Kaya: Overdyed Hemp
ca. early to mid twentieth century
74" x 12 1/2", 188 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a handsome and wonderful length of boro, rustic, over dyed indigo hemp cloth. This is a panel from a kaya or mosquito netting, hence the open weave of the cloth.
The color is a deep green which is a very true, pine needle green. The hemp yarns are wiry and have taken the dye in a slightly uneven fashion, which adds to the country appeal of this length.
There are two patches applied to this boro length, both --one is hemp, the other is a cotton mesh piece.
A charming and really lovely length of old, hemp boro kaya, one with nice age and a very generous size.
