A Beautifully Colored and Textured Sakiori Obi: Cotton Rag Weave
early twentieth century
102" x 6 3/4", 259 cm x 17 cm
This is a really beautifully woven, wonderfully textured and hand woven sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns are of multi-toned cotton which give the obi a subtle, striated appearance; the weft yarns are of variegated colors and tones set in a random order.
This sakiori obi is in good, used condition with little to no flaws; it appears to have been lightly worn in its lifetime, if it was worn at all.
A very handsome, richly toned folk textile.
