A Beautifully Boro Hemp Fragment: Rustic Stitching and Patching
$75.00 USD
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
19" x 11 1/2", 48.25 cm x 29 cm
This is a really lovely, small chunk of Japanese boro cloth: the base is an indigo dyed hemp cloth which has been profusely patched with layers of indigo dyed cotton fragments.
The color is a very good, warm blue; this fragment was most likely once part of a garment.
Great passages of white stitching and a well placed field of patches, this is a marvelous little piece of old Japan.
