A Beautiful Two Process Shibori Fragment: Large, Central Kumo
ca. early to mid twentieth century
24" x 12 1/2", 61 cm x 32 cm
This is a vibrantly designed length of indigo dyed shibori cloth which shows two processes and which is dyed on beautiful hand spun, hand loomed cotton.
The base is a set of evenly spaced pompoms or soft blue irregular blossom shapes. Overlayed on to this is a centrally placed, dark blue, linear form which emanates outward from a central point, the two radiating ends being a type of yanagi or willow shibori.
The contrast between the soft, amorphous, watery blue and the deep, twig like blue forms on top is just beautiful. The cloth is in used condition, but it is still really lovely, and really collectible.
Gorgeous.
