A Beautiful, Old Boro Cloth: Red, White, Blue Hand Loomed Cotton Base
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
56" x 13 1/2", 142 cm x 34
This is a very, very good old boro length, and one that should definitely be considered if you are seriously interested in boro textiles.
Undoubtedly taken from a futon cover, this hand woven cotton length shows a base cloth of small checked cotton, the checks being blue, white and red.
The length is composed of two separate pieces which are hand stitched together; the surface which is detailed here in many photographs, shows about 14 patches, each of them of hand woven cottons, many of them, if not all, are from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century.
This length of boro cloth, with its obvious visual appeal, is enhanced by its age and its remarkable patching of many pieces of old, hand spun, hand woven cotton cloth.
A deliciously beautiful old boro length.
