A Beautiful Length of Tohoku Shibori: Inky Blue Indigo Dyed Cotton

$90.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
88" x 12 3/4", 224 cm x 32.5 cm

What a gorgeous length of indigo dyed cotton shibori.  The cotton is dyed an inky blue--very rich--which is consistently saturated along the length of the cloth.

The pattern is a freely-distributed smattering of floral shapes, the small white/blue resisted splotches against the very dark ground create a delicate, sparkling pattern which gives this cloth its appeal.

This shibori is said to be from Asamai in Akita prefecture.  In this area of north eastern Japan, this kind of spare shibori is typical.

The very long piece is in good, used condition, showing little wear and still carrying a vibrant, dazzling surface effect.

Wonderful.
