This is a nicely made ball of finely plied hemp or ramie yarn--probably hemp--that has been formed into a beautiful orb shape.

The yarn is of high quality and although it is rather delicate seeming, it should perform well in a weaving or needlework project, or, by itself, it will be an object that offers a lot of visual interest.
