A Woven Hanten: Mimicking Sashiko Stitching

This is a fairly heavy weight cotton and well-worn hanten or jacket that is woven in such a way as to mimic an antique fireman's coat.  Old fireman's coats look similar to this hanten but instead of the texture of the cloth being the result of weaving the originals were completely sashiko stitched.

This one shows traditional designs imprinted on it and on the back a medallion shows two kanji or Chinese characters that literally translate as "god protect." The kanji written on the lapels seem to be screen printed onto the garment.

The coat has an interesting feature which is a home made pocket on the proper right hand side of the jacket, a detail photo here shows the stitches as they appear on the outside of the coat. Some surface scuffing and rough areas on the seams, one shown on the accompanying detail photos: the coat is in good, used condition.

Still very wearable: dimensions given above are shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip.
