A Very Large Pieced Cotton Boro Banner: Overdyed

This is a very large, patched cotton cloth that shows a dark, almost-black ground upon which there are two, dark red kanji or Chinese characters. It appears the cloth was overdyed.
The cotton is machine woven and the piece is machine finished. The fourteen or so patches range in size and they are hand stitched to the surface.
It appears that this banner was some kind of advertising or shop sign, and its large size is further indication of this.
Very attractive.
