A Silk Drawstring Bag: Crepe Silk Design on Bottom

$48.00 USD

early twentieth century
as pictured: 6 1/2" x 8" x 8", 16.5 cm x 20.5 cm x 20.5 cm

This drawstring bag or kinchaku is made of two types of silk--a brocade and a crepe version--with the bottom of the bag showing a surprisingly bold image of a six-pointed star, very much like the Star of David, which is created from red and white chirimen or crepe silk with a hand painted center showing a "diamond flower."

The bottom of the bag is rigid from being reinforced by a card board and the entire bag is lined in cotton. The red detailed channel for the drawstring is made of the same chirimen silk as on the bottom of the bag.

In good, used condition, this is a charming and well-crafted bag from old Japan.
