late nineteenth, early twentieth century
13 1/2" x 89", 34.25 cm x 226 cm

This is a very long length of hand spun, hand dyed cotton that has been decorated using a stencil dye technique called katazome. The length bears three family crests, a diamond flower set inside a circle.

The cotton is pitted overall and one of the crests shows a fairly noticeable flaw and this feature is detailed on the accompanying photographs.

The length is so long as to yield all sorts of possibilities, whether to be admired on its own or to be used in a creative project there is a lot of material to enjoy.
