A Rustic, Textured Obi: Rich Colors

$95.00 USD

mid twentieth century
102" x 6 1/4", 259 cm x 16 cm

This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from a red and purple dyed cotton warp with what appears to be weft material that is thick cotton yarns.

The cotton warp gives the overall color scheme a rich tone and creates a kind of stripe/plaid. The weft is fed in blocks of natural brown, purple and tomato colored yarn, creating a striped pattern up the length of the obi. The overall visual result is a fairly uniform design rendered in handsome, rich colors.

The condition is good and used and there seems to be no damage or wear to this piece.

Just lovely.
