A Length of Very Faded Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Folding Fans

$80.00 USD

early twentieth century
70" x 13", 178 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of very faded indigo dyed cotton that has been dyed in the katazome method.

The once-deeply dyed indigo length has faded to a very attractive powdery blue-grey tone.

The pattern is that of large-scale folding fans--a Japanese innovation--that are host to flowers and what might be ivy leaves. The background is karakusa or arabesque, a traditional visual "filler" on katazome textile designs.

The cloth is obviously well-worn and it is of good length and shows a delightful, repeat pattern.

Just marvelous.
