A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Interlocking Circles

$30.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
26" x 14 1/4", 66 cm x 36 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.

The pattern shows interlocking arcs, ovals and circles, some of which show flower designs and which, in some way, evoke the feeling of a temari or a child's ball made from wound, leftover thread.

The pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.
