A Length of Rustic Kasuri Dyed Cotton: Luscious Hand Spun Cotton Yarns

$145.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
58" x 13 3/4", 147.5 cm x 35 cm

This is a rustic length of old indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth whose obvious visual appeal is enhanced by the home spun yarns that were used to weave this length. In appreciating Japanese folk textiles hand spun cotton is always an asset, it is a desirable trait in considering relative quality of old country cloth.

This one is beautifully woven and the cloth is fairly heavy.  The pattern is a repeat of the traditional well cover design set in alternating rows.

The blurring which is seen in the white, undyed areas of the cloth is a trait of rustic kasuri weaving and it is one creates visual interest.

As can be seen there is one patched-over hole, the patch itself is affixed to the back side of this length.

This is a wonderful length of old kasuri and one that captures all the simple beauty of rustic Japanese folk textiles.
